How can you tell if a squirrel is a male or a female?

Males usually have quite prominent testicles, although they're usually the same color as the underside, so you have to get the right angle to see. If you're actually holding it (not generally recommended) and it's testes aren't descended (I don't know if that's something squirrels do; mice pull theirs up into their bodies when it's not breeding season) then the distance between the anus and the urogenital opening will be larger for a male than a female. In a female these openings are right next to each other. How can you tell if a squirrel is a male or a female?
