Should i have kept the baby squirrel?

when i was going home from school i found a little baby squirrel on the road he wasn't moving much and his eyes were shut, i picked him up and decided to take him to my local animal hospital, the lady at the counter said they'll bottle feed the little guy and let him free....my question is will the little guy survive and know what to do when he is set free? since his parents didn't teach him anything...should i have just kept him as a pet?Should i have kept the baby squirrel?
You did the right thing. Wild animals do not make good pets. Squirrels will become aggressive once they reach maturity, and most end up being put to sleep. Also, baby wildlife require very special care and diet that is best attempted only by those with experience. Your squirrel also likely needed subcutaneous fluids and possibly medication.

At the wildlife center where I work, we routinely accept animals that people have tried to raise themselves, and while their intentions are good, they do not know how to offer the proper care, and so often do not bringing the animal in until they are too far gone for us to save.

Wild animals rely very heavily on instinct to survive, so while a mother is helpful, they will learn on their own. Wildlife Rehabilitators often offer a ';soft release'; for the animals, meaning that they release them in a safe area, where they can continue to be fed until they learn to hunt out food on their own.

Good job on doing what was best for the little critter!Should i have kept the baby squirrel?
no, no! you did the best thing you could it will be happier in the wild! thanks for helping this little hunnie for some reason I feel like it's my job to take care of all the animals in the world and I feel like you are my helper.... I love ya for it thanks :D
i do think that i might have some troubl adapting to getting his own food but you did the right thing and either he makes it or he does not but either way you did what you had to do and in my opinion it was the smart thing to do. good job
