Can you get rabies from a squirrel scratch?

Occassionaly rabies can be transmitted through a scratch..but very unlikely. It usually needs to enter the bloodstream through the saliva (a bite that breaks the skin). It is also extremely rare for a squirrel to be infected. Since a squirrel is a small animal it would most likely not survive an attack by a rabid animal. It would need to live long enough to contract the disease to be able to transmit it. Also, if there was a rabies outbreak in your area...you would know about it.Can you get rabies from a squirrel scratch?
no

you get it from a bite

hope this helpsCan you get rabies from a squirrel scratch?
Everyone is right that rabies is transmitted by saliva however even a scratch can cause rabies. Animals clean themselves with their mouth and animals with rabies do salivate more. There is a good chance that the virus could be on other parts of its body. In this type of a situation its better to be safe than sorry.
no, rabies is transmitted via saliva, so it takes a bite to communicate it
no. it has to be a bite from a carnivore.
the rabies virus lives in the mouth, you must be bitten by an infected animal, not scratched
Rabies is in saliva, not on the claws.
