Seriously, can a squirrel climb a (metal) flagpole?

I don't think so, but......if there's one thing I've learned, it's don't underestimate a squirrel....they're pretty numble......

whatdya think? :)Seriously, can a squirrel climb a (metal) flagpole?
yes... if they really wanted to they can... ive seen two of them on the one in my park.

i think they must have some friction thingys on their feet or something...

they can thoughSeriously, can a squirrel climb a (metal) flagpole?
Almost any bird enthusiast will tell you yes. A squirrel and even chipmunks can climb metal poles. Squirrels can even eventually climb greased metal poles. I have it from very reliable sources that it is very funny to watch them trying until they get the grease cleaned off. (Suggest using Crisco or equivalent for an environmentally and squirrel safe grease.)

The best solution I've ever found to stop them is cut a hole in the center of the bottom of a bucket a bit larger than the pole so it will tilt easily. Place a clamp on the pole about 3-4 feet above the ground and place the bucket inverted on top of the clamp. The squirrels and chipmunks can't climb around the bucket since it tilts in all directions and they can't hang onto it.

I know you didn't ask how to stop them from climbing the pole, but squirrels have all day to figure out how to get a free meal out of a bird feeder. This is how difficult it is to actually stop them. As for climbing a flag pole... mount a bird feeder about 4-5 feet up and watch them try.

Now, if your flag pole is large enough in diameter, they probably can't grab around it good enough to climb it. This would be similar to why the bucket stops them. Don't be surprised to find a fat squirrel in your bird feeder.

Shadow Wolf
MY BROTHER HAD A MARTIN BIRD HOUSE ON A ONE AND ONE HALF INCH PIPE WITH A FLAT PIECE OF SHEET IRON FOR IT TO SIT ON . THE THING WAS ABOUT 18 FEET HIGH WE TOOK IT DOWN TO CLEAN IT AND THERE WAS A MOTHER AND 3 BABYS IN IT. SO YES THEY CAN.
Why not. they should proceed and try to overcome it.
No way there is no grip on a metal flagpole.
Better watch its nuts :-)
not that i know of there is no grip
